Why AYB Exists

That’s where Above Your Baseline (AYB) comes in. We’re here to support people who are tired of feeling like they’re just surviving, and ready to start moving toward a version of themselves that feels more resilient, intentional, and aligned with what truly matters.

Life can leave us feeling stuck, burnt out, or running on autopilot. We know we want more for our health, wellbeing and quality of life, yet attempts at change often fizzle out under the weight of daily pressures.

Our Beliefs

Whole person approach.

Your health isn’t one thing... it’s everything interacting. Real change happens when we support your body, mind, and environment together.

You’re not broken - just stuck.

Struggling doesn’t mean you’ve failed; it means something needs attention, not fixing.

Small shifts create big change.

Over time, small, intentional steps build resilience and transform the trajectory of your life.

Progress beats perfection.

Lasting change is built on small, consistent wins, not all-or-nothing thinking.

Setbacks are part of the path.

Every stumble holds insight and can be a step forward if we choose to learn from it.

Alignment, not optimisation.

When your actions align with what matters most, change becomes meaningful and sustainable.

Real resilience comes from adapting, softening, and adjusting when life changes — not forcing yourself to follow rigid rules.

Flexibility is strength.

What We Do

Above Your Baseline blends health psychology, behavioural science, and lived experience. Using approaches from psychotherapeutic models like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we help you handle life’s challenges and make positive changes.
  • Understand your current “baseline” patterns... the habits, thoughts, and default responses that keep you stuck.

  • Develop practical psychological tools to manage stress and navigate challenges.

  • Build resilience and healthier habits that last in the real world, not just in theory.

  • Create change that feels sustainable, compassionate, and aligned with your values.

This isn’t about quick fixes or chasing extremes. It’s about learning how to rise Above Your Baseline self in a way that works for your life.
This means learning skills and tools you can use day to day. With our support, you can:
I'm Dr Carl Bryce.

I'm an British Army veteran turned Health Psychologist and the founder and lead psychologist of Above Your Baseline.

After leaving the military, I spent many years studying psychology and health behaviour change, eventually completing a Doctorate in Health Psychology. I now work in Clinical Health Psychology at Salford Royal Hospital, helping people navigate the psychological impact of long-term health conditions.

But AYB isn’t just built on professional expertise, it’s grounded in real, lived experience. I understand what it’s like to fall into burnout, move through life on autopilot, and battle self-criticism and low self-esteem. I also know the power of taking responsibility for small, compassionate steps, the kind that can shift the direction of life and help you grow through each setback.

That combination of science and real-world experience is at the heart of everything we do here. I built Above Your Baseline to support people like me... those who’ve pushed through, burned out, and are ready to find a kinder, more sustainable way forward.
